A Design That Defies Deer and #Drought - By embracing the challenges of your site, your garden will flourish in its surroundings.
"An #ecofriendly house demands an #ecofriendly garden. Plants native to the area and to similar climates around the world are naturally adapted to the harsh conditions in this garden, keeping watering and problems to a minimum.
Baking sun and drought demand bulletproof plants
There’s a phase I heard once that applies here: “The only thing that separates hell’s heat from this place is a screen door.” There isn’t a hint of shade on this hilltop. On a hot summer day, temperatures can be blistering at more that 100°F. Whatever I planted had to be able to withstand long days of withering, incinerator-like conditions. As if that weren’t enough, the plants we chose had to be able to survive with little or no supplemental watering. #California has been in a drought for the past few years, with no end in sight. Los Altos Hills – along with most of California – now has strict water limits in place. Combine that with our climate’s typically dry summers, and you’ve got an incredibly hot and dry environment.
We chose plants native to California and to the Mediterranean, which are naturally adapted to hot and dry climates. Plants that fall into this category typically have characteristics that enable them to withstand the heat." Lean in via link in bio for a survey of drought-adaptable, deer-eschewing plants.

How time flies ... doesn't it?!!
We blink and another year is gone ... we are already 1/2 way through 2019, it's mad ;-)
I look at these pictures of my favourite client and friend, Natalie Portman with my little boy all these years ago while filming Thor in Santa Fe where Nat was so amazingly supportive and loving !
I mean, I went onto a movie set to work and had my then barely 3 months old with me - crazy, if I think about it now ;-)
But Natalie was such an incredible "friend/client" as she made it so easy for me to do my work and be a new mum at the same time. I was able to spend all the time I needed in her on-set trailer to feed my boy and rest etc and often my little one sat on Natalie's lap during her makeup or hair session or we went on walks during days off and she carried him around
Without her and her lovely support, I couldn't have done my job and I really love her for that
This was actually 9 years ago and it makes me realize how precious time is. In our kids, we see the most how fast time passes although when I look at pictures of myself from that time, I also see how time passed across my face ;-)
That's why I'm so passionate about following my own skin roadmap and adjust my course along the way.
On that film, for example, we were in New Mexico where the climate is soooo dry due to the altitude etc. To maintain a glowy and fresh looking skin can be a challenge there during the late winter/springtime. So I adjusted Natalie's skincare routine and changed products and techniques around to keep her glowing, which let's be honest is coming easily with her ;-)
So keep in mind where you are right now.... which climate you're in and what's happening with your skin
Are you listening to your skin and do you act upon it?
Do you have questions about it?
Ask me here below or DM me and I'd be so happy to give you some tips ;-) ...
I saw some incredible examples of xeriscaping for dry climates in Utah this past week—and was met with a lot of new plants that I surely am unfamiliar with. Perhaps some dry climate folks would like to ID this wind-blown plant. Reminds me of a Romneya, but am uncertain of its exact ID. ...
