This whole temple was moved - so don’t tell me it’s impossible to move mountains.
Abu Simbel temples are located in Aswan, Egypt and are made up of two temples that were carved into the side of a mountain: one for Ramesses II and the other for his wife, Nefretari.
While much of the landscape of Egypt is made by decreased water levels, the village of Abu Simbel was forced to move to higher ground due to the rising of the Nile River - and creation of the Aswan High Dam.
To preserve these temples, they were move 180 meters (600 feet) away from their original. They moved it piece by piece, in 3-20 ton chunks, over the span of 5 years, in the 1960s!
One of the most unique features of the temple is that it was built on the axis of the sun so that light would flood the Holy Inner Sanctum twice a year... and it still functions today in its new location.
