It’s Masskara month in Bacolod!
Quick facts: The Maskarra Festival started in 1980 during the period of sugar crisis and after a boat tragedy in the city. The then mayor and the city business group thought of this festival to bring back the cheer in the city. Everyone eventually felt that this Mardi-Gras-inspired festival is just perfect to live up to the city’s moniker as the City of Smiles. It was a declaration of the fighting spirit of the Bacolodnons, that they can look past tragedies with triumph and continue smiling.
